Day 34 of prayer for work

My Bible study today was John 1:35-42. I am not a scholar but my take on this passage today has been an encouragement.  I love that Jesus is so willing to spend time with those that want to know Him, and that from that time spent with Him, His guests are filled with joy and excitement to share Him with others and introduce those they love to Him.   Sometimes reading the Bible feels less than exciting to me honestly, but how refreshing to be reminded of the joy that comes by spending time with Jesus daily.

Dear Heavenly Father on this day I thank you for another day of work, another day of peace, and for reminding me how you love it when we visit. Thank you for the time to play with our children today and our health in order to do so. Be with our sleep and help us to use the rest and strength it provides us to glorify your name tomorrow. In Jesus name I pray, amen.

Learning curves

I’ve been learning a lot about trust lately.

As someone who has a relationship with the Creator God, I know He alone is in control of all the happenings in my life, and I love having that peace like a child… trusting my Abba Father to take care of me, my family, and those that rise up against us.

Lamentations 3:37  Who can speak and have it happen if the Lord has not decreed it?

My husband’s job is at risk in a big way right now by a person that seems to have been against us since we’ve lived here in NY. Our December felt robbed because of the drama that was brought by this person and the team that stands with her. He had 3 visits in a weeks time at one point and was also told his job would be over in three days and then called back the next day to say no it wouldn’t be, but may be the next time he is visited.

This experience has been so hard for me as a wife to see my best friend and a wonderful leader be so repeatedly professionally bullied when he has done so much good up here. It’s also served as a reminder to me that as a wife, it is not my place to save him, defend him, or retaliate against higher-ups with my words, or even in my heart. I like being in control, so this has been VERY hard for me to concede my will to God’s control and trust that He knows exactly what’s happening and nothing happens without His consent.

My husband is the one that from the beginning has encouraged our family to pray for these people in authority over him up here, I had a hard time doing that without asking for God to leave a mark (yikes!) for a long time. I honestly do pray for each of their hearts now to be reconciled with God and that maybe through this situation they may see Him through our responses to what they mean for harm.

So my prayer now that we are through the holidays (and the safety that they brought by no one wanting to be the one to terminate someone at Christmas) is for 35 more days of work. 35 days gets us to the annual cut-off time for his annual bonus which would be a blessing to have if a job is no longer available. It would also be a blessing to have as we pray that the next step that this will lead our family to is full-time ministry work.

We have been looking for years for full-time ministry but no doors have been opened for us in that pursuit over the years. Our latest talks have been with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Florida and their need for the business mind and training within my husband. We would LOVE to work among people who love our Savior, it’s been a decade since we have and we long for that communion again. We continue to search and trust that God will lead and we will be wise enough to see His path and follow it through. Many of these positions are support based so that adds an element of fear for me, but thankfully not for my husband, who keeps pointing my shoulders back to God and reminding me HE has all our needs covered.

God know the plans we have, and I pray they are a copy of His heart upon ours. I covet your prayers with me for these 35 days of prayer.

Today Lord Jesus I pray for safety in the physical snow storm that we have here in NY, that the workers would make it to work safely and prepare the business to be approved by authorities over them, I pray for those bosses you know to come to know you as well, I pray that my husband finds his strength in you, pursues your approval above all others, and maintains his testimony for you in his workplace. Thank you for being in control and being worthy of trust and trustworthy. Thank you for the peace you have given us that passes our understanding. Please grant us 35 days of work and help us to stay out of your way while you work in our hearts in this very real way. I love and trust you God. In Jesus name I pray…

Amen

Monday ponderings

We have been praying about what God has for our future. Some of the possibilities out there would mean a big change for us financially and of course another move.  This has led to well-meaning onlookers to warn us of the hardships of stepping down in pay and quality of life.

I have been thinking about our “stuff” and what we do with our current finances and how we long for them to be used to God’s glory. We have devoted a portion to supporting missionaries so I definitely keep that in our need to sustain side of decision-making.

Today I started my morning in Ephesians 1:7-14 and especially love verses 11-12

Ephesians 1:11-12 (NIV)

In Him you were also predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of His will,

in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of His glory.

Since I was a teenager I have been taught by wise youth leaders to use each and every situation or obstacle, good or bad, to bring glory to God. To make the time in those moments not about me and how hard things are for me, or how I wish for different or better, but to look to God and be willing to see what He has already planned out so that I might give Him glory in return. Sometimes it isn’t something seen immediately, but God will always use our experiences in conformity with the purpose of HIS will, so I might as well make His will my heart’s desire.

The benefits of changing our “quality of life” in financial realms are actually a massive improvement to our quality of life. Maybe not to everyone, but for the purpose of serving God more fully and storing our treasures in Heaven instead of earth, benefits far outweigh any sacrifices we may have to make.

All this said, we still aren’t even sure what God will do and if doors that we are knocking on will open, but we are standing ready and willing in excited anticipation on this side of the door. I have a sticker in the front of my Bible that I got the weekend that I made God the LORD of my life and not just my insurance for after-life… it says:

ALL I am…

ALL I have…

ALL I ever hope to be…

I now and forever dedicate to the Lord Jesus Christ for His use and glory, absolutely, unconditionally, now and forever.

Now LORD JESUS, Hold me to it.

I signed this January 12, 1992. I will never forget that amazing weekend and how God grabbed my heart and jump started it again to live and truly live passionately in love with HIM.

If God is the one in control of my life, and He is, I have nothing to fear. He cares for each detail and has proved that to me time and time again in little and big ways.

This morning I listened to a song I haven’t heard in a while. I had it in my heart when I woke so looked it up online to refresh all the words. Listen and watch He Is No Fool, by Twila Paris.

May you have a day of knowing God is in control and finding peace within that knowledge and courage and strength to seek out what He has planned for you to do in order for whatever is happening to bring Him glory according to HIS will at work in you.

Blessings,

An encouraging video

I hesitate to share this video only because I am not a fan of the 700 club and Pat Robinson, however, Karen Ehman was mentioned in my Made to Crave devotional this morning and a further look to her site www.karenehman.com led me to find her story in this format.

It is encouraging to see her success and to hear that it was not through a text book “diet”, but from making changes, even small ones. I feel the same way about weight issues and ministry as what she tapped on during her interview. My ministry can be so much greater if my body is healthier and showing my obedience to God even in my food and care choices. (like exercise)

So, I’ll cover chapter 3 of Made to Crave tomorrow and it starts the planning process of making a plan. Have you made a plan? Remember, this is not a study about finding our how-to, but about finding our want-to.

In the Made to Crave participants guide page 12, Lysa defines the HOW-TO as diet programs and the WANT-TO as the spiritual and mental motivation to make lasting changes.

So lets talk. I will be calling those in Sisterhood of the Shrinking Pants group that personally know and setting up times with them to weekly talk and pray together as we encourage one another to continue on this journey to put food in its proper place and grow our relationship with God instead of our waistline. 😉

If I don’t know you and you would like personal accountability, I encourage you to connect with the person that referred you to this study and make a weekly appointment call.

In this call we can discuss… (the following questions are from the Made to Crave Devotional: 60 days to Craving God, Not Food, by Lysa TerKeurst page 18, which is from www.karenehman.com weight loss Wednesday blog topic)

1. Did I overeat this week on any day?

2. Did I move more and exercise regularly?

3. Did I eat in secret, or out of anger or frustration?

4. Did I feel that, at any time, I ran to food instead of to God?

5. Before I weighed in, did I think I had a successful, God-pleasing week?

And our own personal questions:

1. Is there anything specific I can pray for you this week?

2. What verse encouraged or empowered you this week?

3. Are there any exercise tips to share?

The call doesn’t need to be a long one, but even writing the questions was convicting for me to be more pro-active in my steps to better health and shrinking pants.

Have a blessed day!

Getting Real

I’ll be honest, this is getting real very fast for me and I’m terrified and excited and humbled all in one!

I have a few “sisters” joining me in this journey and I am coming to the realization that this is IT, I have committed myself and am in it to finish! Wow, for a girl who chickens out sometimes at big opportunities this is a bit intimidating. Seems like it’s just what I need though! So, thank you for joining in my journey toward better health and a stronger walk with God.

My e-mail came that my workbook is on its way so in the mean time I am preparing my heart in prayer for the journey ahead.

Here’s some things I have been praying over:

  • Wisdom in my choice of words on the blog posts, that they would all glorify God, be uplifting to others and myself, and most of all always be honest even if it hurts my pride.
  • Grace to follow the path that Made to Crave will lay before me/us.
  • The ability to say no to my stomach and fill my heart instead. (after all, my stomach seems to have a contentment problem, or I suppose my brain tries to tell it so anyway.)
  • For the ladies joining me in the journey to be prepared, ready for blessings, and actively correcting my mis-steps in love.
  • Most of all for a right mindset and uplifting words to my own self. I can beat myself up verbally better than anyone and sometimes I’m downright mean.

If you are gearing up for this journey I encourage you to begin praying for the study and the outcomes now as well. Anyone is welcome,  maybe your scared to say out loud that “you’re in” too, you are welcome to read along and I pray you will feel encouraged, blessed, and maybe even inspired to step out in faith and trust.

This is meant to be a safe blog and any comments that are derogatory or just plain “not nice” will be deleted. (I haven’t had this issue, but just want to make sure all the guidelines are out there)

Can you think of anything I missed that I should be praying for as well?

Have a fabulous Wednesday! The Journey will most likely begin on Monday to enable us to get books/workbooks in hand. I’ll keep you updated.
